The TMBU University is one of the educational universities of the Bihar state. The university is a public university and situated in the Bhagalpur district of the Bihar state. The name of the university is given in the honor of a freedom fighter tilka manjhi. The university was established in the year 1960 on 12th July. At the time of the establishment the name of the university was Bhagalpur University then in the year 1991 the name of the university changed to tilka manjhi Bhagalpur University. The university is spread in a large area of 264 acres of land in the Bhagalpur district in the Bihar state.
The university is recognized by the university grant commission (UGC) and accredited by the national assessment and accreditation council (NAAC). The university is also tied withy some international universities as university of Bristol, university of Vienna, university of Kent, university of Lyon and university of Notre Dame. Many different colleges of the Bihar state are affiliated with the university. The colleges of the Bhagalpur, Munger, narayanpur, sultanganj, Jamalpur, Banka, barbihga, barhiya, naugachia, kahalgaon, Haveli Kharagpur, Gagarin, khagaria, probate, jhajha, torpor, game, shekhpura, lakhisarai are affiliated with the university. The university provides education facilities in many departments as science, social science, humanities, commerce, management studies and law.
